EXHIBITION SYNOPSIS
About Welcome New Year - Other Gallery Collection Exhibition"Welcome New Year: Other Gallery Collection Exhibition " exhibits part of the classical works collected by the Gallery since the establishment in 2009. The selection of works is carefully arranged, and each piece witnesses the development of the Gallery.
Harald Szeemann has once said that “the task of a museum is to build up meaningful connections among separated works.” It seems that there is little connection among works exhibited this time. However, it is something hidden beneath the significance of works to discover the perspectives and realities coincidentally in common among artists with different styles of works.
The connection among works exhibited this time forms the theme of perspectives and realities against the background of globalization, which can be reflected not only by the places where the artists come from but by the interpretation of works. Take Cans Seurat by Chris Jordan for example. This piece of work presents perspectives and at the same time reflects realities. The artist chose A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of la Grande Jatte by Seurat as the media of his re-creation for special purposes. In a sunny afternoon, people in the park were enjoying themselves. The artist depicts 106,000 aluminum cans in the painting, the number used in the U.S. every thirty seconds. From this insinuation, it can be easily associated that is not our everyday life filled with growing desires for consumption. Realities and perspectives euphemistically expressed in works of art enable audience to get alert to their negative attitudes of life and change their views of circumstances through visual impact. The landscape painting series by Xue Song is searching for the connection between realities and traditions. It can be revealed through the paintings of 15 artists that the Other Gallery is striving to highlight and build up its own style by communication with foreign artists.
