EXHIBITION SYNOPSIS
About Unnatural Selection - Works by Chen HangfengHangfeng is the international artist selected for the Square Mile Project in Bradford 2010 – 11.
This exhibition will host paper cut outs, rugs, film and Christmas trees. Mixing and manipulating corporate logos and traditional Chinese symbols, Shanghai based artist Chen Hangfeng makes intricate paper cut-outs that respond to both the era of mega-business and his own ancient heritage. Film and artworks are representative of the mass production industry’s poor working conditions and disregard for environmental standards.
As a graphic designer Chen has created logos almost as often as he’s satirised them, which may be why his noncorporate work is as playful, aesthetically compelling and subtle as the best commercial advertising.
