EXHIBITION SYNOPSIS
About History in the Making: Sketches for Iconic Paintingsntroduction
Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of sketches for iconic historical paintings by Chinese artists collected by China National Museums. The exhibition will offer a new insight on China contemporary Art’s pioneers artists, revealing to the public for the first time drawings created between the years 1950 and 1980, as sketches for major works of China’s 20th century Art history.

About the exhibition
The show will present preparatory drawings for Chinese historical paintings from the Mao Zedong era. These paintings, collections of China’s prestigious institutions, represents both artistical and historical landmarks of the “New China”, such as Lin Gang’s “Meeting at Jinggang Mountain” or Cai Liang’s “An Anti-Japanese Propaganda Team”. Both of these paintings are considered ones of the National Museum of China’s finest artworks, and have served as historical teaching material for more than 50 years. Along with them, will also be presented sketches for works belonging to the National Museum’s permanent exhibitions : “The Road of Rejuvenation” and “Masterpieces of Modern Chinese Fine Arts” such as the iconic Zhan Jianjun’s masterpiece,“The Five Heroes of Langya Mountain”.
