EXHIBITION SYNOPSIS
About Free Money - Erin Ko Solo ExhibitionErin Ko’s latest mixed media work explores themes of industrialization, consumerism and a rapidly changing world. An emphasis on the intimate relationship between China and the U.S. is a constant element in this show ongoing series.
Artist's Statement:
Ideas are very important to me; I usually start with some specific concept. The power of visual art lies in the ability to communicate complex ideas that would otherwise become clumsy and less meaningful if boxed up by language. Often materials will present themselves as appropriate to an expression of an idea, inspiring a piece.
Contradictions fuel my art. I love people and I hate them. I respect tradition and I embrace an uncertain future. I'm patient and I'm reckless. I'm spiritual and materialistic. I'm the worst vegan ever!
I've studied traditional Chinese brush painting and Japanese ceramics while tweaking mathematical fractals and modeling 3d wireframes. I make room sized installations and virtual interactive spaces that occupy no physical space. I lock myself in my studio and I travel the world.
Of course these are not contradictions at all. I also read and write, eat and cook. Industrial society tells us to find our proper place in the machine - specialize and there's a seat for you on the assembly line. Fuck that shit.
